# what results means to me, _and what it should mean to you_

Results is in the name of my business, so here is exactly what I count as one and what I refuse to.

**Brandon Medina**, founder of BCM Results, Boston. Published September 20, 2026, updated September 21, 2026.

Hi,

The word results is in the name of my business, so I owe you a definition. Every agency says it. Very few say what they mean.

Here is what I do not mean. I do not mean impressions. I do not mean a report with a chart going up and to the right that nobody can explain. I do not mean followers, likes, reach, or a dashboard with a login you will never use. Those things can all go up while your phone stays silent, and owners pay for months of green arrows without a single new customer to show for them.

Here is what I do mean. Two things.

First: when someone in your area searches for your service, you are on the map. Not somewhere below it. In the three businesses Google shows. I measure that one way, and it is the way you can check yourself: a dated screenshot of one search, from one spot, at the start and then every month. Same search, same place, different map. You do not need me to interpret it. You look at the picture.

Second: the phone rings, and the person on the other end found you on Google. That one is easy to check too. Ask every new customer how they found you and write the answer down. If the answer is not changing after a few months of work, the work is not working, and no chart should be allowed to argue otherwise.

That is the lesson: a result is something you can see without me in the room.

Picture an owner of a small gym who was sold "results" once before. The reports came every month: reach up, engagement up, website sessions up. Membership flat. When she asked what a session was, the answer took a long time and did not include the word customer. The reports were about the agency's activity, not her business. What she needed was one picture of the map, once a month, and a front desk that writes down "found you on Google" when it happens. Everything else was noise dressed as data.

This is also why the website matters to me as much as the ranking. Being on the map gets the tap. The site has to turn the tap into a call, or the result stops halfway. A local site is an ad for one action, and it either gets that action or it does not. I wrote out what that takes here: [what a local website needs before the visitor calls](https://bcmresultss.com/articles/what-a-local-website-needs-to-get-the-call/).

And it is why my terms say what they say. Top 3 on Google Maps within 90 days, or billing pauses until you are there. I can put that in writing because the result is a picture, not an argument. Either you are in the three or you are not, and you can see which, and so can I.

So when you hear the word results from anyone, including me, ask one question: how will I see it without you explaining it to me? If there is no clean answer, it is not a result. It is a report.

Talk soon,
Brandon

I run BCM Results in Massachusetts. I help local businesses improve and measure their Google visibility. The written terms define a 90-day top-three goal and pause billing if that goal is not reached. Six public website examples are linked from the Work section on the home page.
