Cambridge, Massachusetts

# Local SEO agency in _Cambridge, MA_

A searcher in Harvard Square can see a different local result from one in Kendall Square or at Alewife. The plan measures the main search from the parts of Cambridge that matter, then works on the profile, site and review process without pretending one ranking is universal.

**Brandon Medina**, founder of BCM Results, Boston. Published September 19, 2026, updated September 21, 2026.

## Cambridge is a chain of squares, and Google knows it

Cambridge runs along Massachusetts Avenue from the Charles River up to the Arlington line. Along that road you pass MIT, Central Square, Harvard Square and Porter Square, with Inman Square off to the side on Cambridge Street and Kendall Square down by the river.

Google's help page on local ranking says results come from relevance, distance and prominence. There is no single top 3. Google draws a fresh map from wherever the searcher is standing, so a dentist can be first for someone in Harvard Yard and ninth for someone at Lechmere.

### How the map moves across town

- **Harvard Square and Porter Square:** walkable and busy. The top 3 here changes from one end of Mass Ave to the other.

- **Central Square and Cambridgeport:** the middle of the city. A search here pulls results from both Harvard Square and Kendall Square, so competition comes from two directions.

- **Kendall Square and East Cambridge:** offices, labs and the Longfellow Bridge. Searchers here see Boston businesses mixed in, because Beacon Hill is one bridge away.

- **North Cambridge, Alewife and Fresh Pond:** more parking and more customers who drive. Results spill into Arlington, Belmont and Somerville.

- **Inman Square:** sits on the Somerville line, so the top 3 here is often half Cambridge and half Somerville.

Boston next door makes this stronger. Someone on Memorial Drive is closer to Allston and Back Bay than to Porter Square. If your listing and website only make sense for one corner of Cambridge, you are invisible in the rest of it. I explain the Boston side of the river on my [Boston page](https://bcmresultss.com/boston/), and if your shop is nearer Union Square or Davis Square, my [Somerville page](https://bcmresultss.com/areas/somerville/) covers that map.

## The kinds of Cambridge businesses this fits

My plan fits a business that is already doing well and wants more. In Cambridge that usually looks like:

- Dentists, physical therapists and chiropractors around Mount Auburn Hospital, Harvard Square and Central Square.

- Restaurants, cafes and bakeries in the squares that want the "near me" search, not just the walk by.

- Plumbers, electricians, HVAC and cleaning companies that serve Cambridge homes but park the van in Somerville, Arlington or Watertown.

- Gyms, salons, barbers and med spas along Mass Ave and Cambridge Street.

One business per industry per area, so if I already work with a Cambridge electrician I will not take a second one.

## How it works in my plan

Six steps, in this order, because each one feeds the next.

- **Google Business Profile, rebuilt category by category.** Primary category taken from what the current top 3 in Cambridge use, every section complete, services with descriptions, photos with real locations, a booking link, weekly updates, a reply to every review. See the [Google Business Profile page](https://bcmresultss.com/services/google-business-profile-optimization/).

- **Website optimization.** Title and headline that say the service and the place. Name, address and phone in the footer, identical to the listing. The Google map embedded, one page per service, one page per area, all linked, fast on a phone, with schema markup. See [website optimization](https://bcmresultss.com/services/website-optimization/).

- **A review system your team can run.** One tap link, a script for the moment the customer is happiest, a reply to every review. Steady reviews every month beat bursts.

- **Citations cleaned up.** Name, address and phone identical everywhere they appear.

- **Retargeting on Google and Meta.** A small budget so people who already found you keep seeing you on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. It does not move the Maps position.

- **A dated rank grid every month.** The same search from the same spots across Cambridge. Red dots where you are not in the top 3, green where you are.

## What to expect, and the 90 day line

Profile, website and citation changes can be processed on different schedules. Google does not publish a fixed ranking timetable, so progress is measured with dated grids. The written terms define the 90-day goal and billing protection.

If you are not in the top 3 on Google Maps and the organic results for your main search term within 90 days, billing pauses until you are there and restarts from the next billing cycle. It is written into the [terms of service](https://bcmresultss.com/terms-of-service/). One flat monthly rate, quoted in writing before anything starts and locked for as long as we work together. Month to month.

## A checklist you can run yourself today

Do this from your phone in a square that is not yours.

- Search your main term from Central Square, then again from Porter Square. Write down the top 3 each time.

- Open those listings and note their primary category. Is yours the same?

- Check your own listing: every section filled, services with descriptions, photos of your real place, correct hours, a website link.

- Open your website on your phone. Does the title say what you do and the word Cambridge? Are name, address and phone in the footer, matching the listing exactly?

- Look at your last five reviews. Spread across months, or all from one week? Did you reply to each?

- Search your business name plus "Somerville" and plus "Boston". Old addresses or phone numbers showing up are citations that need fixing.

## Questions people ask

**I'm in Harvard Square. Why do I show up there but not in Kendall?**

Google measures distance from the searcher, not from you. Kendall searchers are closer to East Cambridge and to Boston across the Longfellow Bridge, so those businesses win on distance. You close the gap with the right category, steady reviews and a website that says Cambridge.

**Should I add "Cambridge" to my business name on Google?**

Not unless it is your real registered name. Stuffing a town into the name, or switching it back and forth, goes against Google's guidelines and can trigger verification again or a suspension. The city belongs in your categories, description, services and website.

**My van is in Somerville but most of my jobs are in Cambridge. Does this still work?**

Yes. A service area business can rank in Cambridge without a storefront here. Start with a tight service area, then widen it, and give your website a real Cambridge page that names the neighborhoods you work in.

**What do you need from me?**

A free analysis first, then a one page plan you approve before money moves. About an hour at the start for access and questions. Then you ask happy customers for a review with the link I give you, and we do a short check in each month.

**What if I'm still not in the top 3 after 90 days?**

Billing pauses until you are, and restarts from the next billing cycle. It is in the terms of service.
